IELTS is a test of all four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You will take the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between. For the Speaking test, you can book a slot online on your preferred date and time. If you fail to choose a slot within the stipulated time, a slot will be automatically allocated to you. The total test time is under three hours.
IELTS Listening test (30 minutes)
You will have to listen to four recordings and then answer the questions asked. The recordings are of native English speakers and the duration of the test is 30 minutes.
IELTS Reading test
The IELTS Reading test requires you to answer 40 questions and is designed to test you on an array of reading skills. You would have to read for gist, main ideas, details, logical arguments, skimming, and figuring out the writers’ attitudes, opinions and intentions.
IELTS Writing test (60 minutes)
The IELTS writing test requires you to complete two tasks and covers topics of general interest based on the module you are taking.
IELTS Speaking Test (11-14 minutes)
The IELTS Speaking test assesses your spoken English skills. The test is recorded and conducted in three parts.
It is the study test? Thousands of the world’s most reputable universities and colleges accept IELTS results as evidence of English language proficiency.
It is the test for professionals? Professional registration bodies in many fields including accounting, engineering, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and teaching bodies in many countries accept IELTS scores. This implies that you’ll need to take the IELTS to gain professional registration in an English-speaking country.
It is the test for migration – Most governments prefer IELTS scores as proof of your language skills to any other English language test as a requirement for permanent residency. Unlike other providers, the IELTS General Training test is the only non-academic test available for migration to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the USA.
It’s the test that’s fairer to you – IELTS assesses your practical communication abilities and provides an accurate assessment of the four skills being tested. It focuses on testing the language abilities rather than specialist knowledge of the candidate and offers two versions – Academic and General Training. Plus, the Speaking test is held one-on-one with a certified examiner.
The test content for IELTS is developed by an international team of experts and undergoes extensive research to ensure the test remains fair and unbiased for any candidate regardless of nationality, background, gender, lifestyle, or location.
As such, there are no minimum IELTS Eligibility criteria 2022 set by the conducting bodies like IDP and British Council for the IELTS Exam 2022. IELTS is a language proficiency test that is given by those candidates who wish to study in an English-speaking country and aim to gain global exposure. The medium of teaching in a majority of the colleges, universities, and educational institutions in the major English-speaking countries is the English language only. So, the candidates should have a basic understanding of the language in order to pursue their higher studies successfully. According to the IELTS Exam Pattern, the candidates are assessed on four parameters Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Report Form photocopies or a test results verification service to candidates
All IELTS marking is done by certified
examiners. Examiners are trained to understand the IELTS assessment criteria
and are required to demonstrate that they are marking to standard before they
are allowed to mark papers. Examiners are re-trained regularly to ensure that
they are marking to the required standard. Systematic monitoring and double
marking of a proportion of answer sheets is carried out at each administration.
You can request an Enquiry on Result (EoR) if you feel that your test results do not reflect your performance in the test. This means that your test scripts/tapes will be sent to Cambridge to be re-marked by Senior Examiners. This request is made after the test results have been released and are designed to ensure candidate performance has been accurately assessed. Please read these terms and conditions carefully:
1. The fee for this service is INR 5200 and it is the same whether you ask for one part of the test to be re-marked, or all parts of the test.
2. An EoR can only be made within six weeks of the test date. Candidates should make sure that the following complete set of application documents arrives at the Examinations Unit of the British Council before the deadline: * EoR Application Form * Complete address details, postal code, and telephone numbers * Original Test Report Form (TRF)
3. If your scores change after the EoR then:
4. A new TRF will be issued to the candidate.
5. A full refund will be made to the candidate within a month of the new TRF being issued.
6. If the scores do not change after the EOR then the original TRF will be returned to the candidate.
7. There is no appeal after this remark. The decision is final. During the period of remarking, the test results are frozen, and cannot be used to apply for a university or to be sent to an immigration office. Any extra TRF application lodged during this period will be regarded as invalid.
8. This procedure takes
six to eight weeks to be completed.
